A marketing gap analysis compares the process you have with the process you need. It should result in a short list of actions with owners and evidence, rather than a long list of tools to buy.
Use this worksheet
- Goal: what business outcome are you trying to improve?
- Current state: what do the records show, over which dates?
- Desired state: what target are you proposing, and why?
- Gap: what is missing or underperforming?
- Possible cause: what evidence supports that explanation?
- Action: what will change, who owns it and when will it be reviewed?
- Measurement: how will you distinguish improvement from a change in traffic or demand?
Example: enquiries without a next step
Illustrative example, not CarrasStudio client results: a company receives 20 enquiries in a month, but only 12 have an assigned next action. Its process target is to assign every valid enquiry to an owner. The gap is eight records without a documented next step. This does not establish that eight sales were lost.
Review the unassigned records. If enquiries arrive in several inboxes, a shared intake process may help. If the records are complete but staff capacity is limited, a new website alone will not solve the problem. Test the suspected cause before commissioning a large implementation.
Prioritize the next change
Consider customer impact, confidence in the cause, implementation effort and operating cost. Repair a broken form before adding a new traffic source. Fix missing ownership before building a more elaborate automated sequence.
Review with a consistent definition
Keep the same definition of a valid enquiry during the comparison. Record duplicates, spam and out-of-area requests separately. Use a clear review period and note changes in advertising spend, staffing or seasonality.
The worksheet can guide a CarrasStudio website, marketing or lead-follow-up proposal. If the cause lies in internal software or operational data, Carras Technologies can help scope the engineering work. The analysis should make that boundary visible.
